Gordon Banks commends Crieff High pupils
28 April 2008
In January 2008, three youngsters from Crieff High School were praised for their quick thinking in coming to the aid of their ski instructor after he seriously injured himself in a fall, whilst on the slopes. Alex Wilson, Jamie Henry, and Bruce Coull were on a school skiing trip at Les Deux Alpes in France, when their French ski instructor fell fracturing his hip, collar bone and knocking himself unconscious. Collectively, the youngsters kept him warm, helped him regain consciousness, shielded him from other skiers and sent for help from resort medics.
Gordon Banks said: “I am really proud of the achievements of Alex, Jamie and Bruce they are a real credit to the Crieff Community; so often young people are demonised by the public and the press and it’s great to see examples of exceptions to this stereotype, of which I am sure there are many more.”
“I met the youngsters last Friday at Crieff High in order to congratulate them in person, and in some small way I wanted to recognise their actions and that is why I have invited them to come down to the House of Commons and also to a small gathering at the Scotland Office where they will meet a government minister who also wishes to commend them.”
Gordon Banks also said, “I was pleased to have another opportunity to visit Crieff High School, to learn more about the schools Citizenship programme. The programme aims to encourage pupils to become more community spirited and pupils have already been out trying to improve the environment of Crieff.”
“I have been informed by Crieff High’s Headteacher Mrs Ross, that pupils have already conducted successful litter picking exercises in King Street car park; are actively contributing to the future plans for McRosty park and intend to work alongside Crieff resident’s association and the Crieff in Leaf group to carry out future community projects.”
