Gordon Banks praises impact of eco-town
3 March 2008
Ochil & South Perthshire MP Gordon Banks congratulated the UK Governments planned use of eco-towns last week in a debate with Housing Minister, Caroline Flint.
Mr Banks said
Eco-towns will make a positive impact on housing supply and will offer affordable homes to those who are today unable to get on the housing ladder. They also offer an opportunity to rejuvenate parts of our local community.
This Government has committed to provide desperately needed new homes for families and first time buyers, but also in a way that fits with its climate change objectives. Eco-homes are already making an impact in my constituency and I was especially pleased to learn of their existence in Alloa.
It is disappointing however that the Scottish Executive have not matched the UK Governments commitment to eco-towns as they provide homes which can be run for very little and will go a long way to regenerating many of our local communities in Scotland.
